  2. Cinema merely refers to the medium, so I'm not sure that I agree with Scorsese's semantics here. I do agree with the concept he's trying to get across though. I feel like action movies of today are a distillation of what us who were children in the 80's found exciting about movies like Rambo, taking out all of the nuance and messaging in favor of what stuck in our young minds: the cool action. My question is, from here, does the population pendulum back into desiring the more nuanced movies that send a message, or is this a one way trip to permanent hardcore action porn?
