  1. There is valid argument that FDR's New Deal policies did not help the Great Depression. Some argue that it extended the Great Depression. Social Security and Medicare are clearly a mess, and programs like 401(k) are better. The US public school system is constantly derided for being one of the worst in the developed world. I'm not against aspects of social services, but this nation is not socialist. Just like this nation isn't a democracy despite having democratic elements; it's a constitutional republic. And these programs must be done properly, and the leadership of this nation seems to be at a loss on how to do that.
