So I'm seeing a pattern here: 1. Claim you're solving some environmental problem (whether you actually are or not is irrelevant). 2. Get lots of money from idiots.

So here's my theory on Elon Musk: The engineers have figured out that if they keep feeding his ego on his bullshit ideas, it's job security.

@Altorin How did you manage to shoehorn an anti-American statement in there where it didn't fit? It's laughworthy the fixation some people have with bashing America that they'll just throw that shit in anywhere. smdh

I'd appreciate it if you'd spend more time on the long-term management of nuclear waste storage, as that's a real issue that France is facing right now.

You'd think that if they found a way to get enough energy from relatively safe nuclear material, smoke detectors wouldn't need a 9-volt battery.

To be fair, I think that this is the most noble spending of tax dollars that we could imagine, and he has been able to get significantly more funding for space travel than NASA ever was. If he was intentionally lying to get that money, I'm personally nor miffed about it because it's hella hard to keep up public interest in space exploration (as NASA can attest to). It's, unfortunately, a political game. It may be at a slowER rate of progress than what is promised, but it's progress and he's keeping the funds flowing to see it through. I'm pretty sure this is the type of rant that the quote dubiously attributed to Confucius was speaking of where it's written, to paraphrase, "The person who says it's impossible shouldn't interrupt the person doing it."

Yeah, nah, what I see is my cup slipping out sideways when I'm getting in those last couple of pumps and boiling water going everywhere and a shattered mug and tears on the floor.

We're in an Information Dark Age.

The amount of stupid crammed in between 20:02 and 20:15 may have created a singularity, forming an intellectual black hole.

@EgadsNo That doesn't help further the conversation. For instance, how exactly do you completely reclaim the fissile materials hanging on a radiation suit and what do you use it for?

It will never cease to actually gross me out that water shows as black on IR. Maybe I'd feel better about black hot settings.

I guarantee you someone paid him to make this video.

@fulcanostwyr6852 He's currently accomplishing a lot more than NASA has ever done and is much further along today than NASA would have been. NASA just doesn't understand the politics of getting funding/refused to play the game for that funding. I personally have a feeling that the only reason that there's renewed political interest in returning to the Moon and establishing a permanent presence there is because of the abundance of stable precursors for tritium that was recently found there. That's just NASA lucking out for having the political necessity baked into the mission. People don't like that good science means a slow pace and a lot of failure. It's just not a viable way to win over public opinion. You have to navigate that reality, which is what NASA sucked at doing but Musk excels at doing. Meanwhile, NASA was much better at planning and building projects, but Musk's rapid iterative methods will also get the job done while keeping people excited about what they're seeing accomplished. All it takes is some sonic booms and a rocket booster being caught by its framework to excite people, and he does just that.

10 minutes? You could train yourself to just hold your breath that long and save money.

Higher cancer rates and fetal developmental issues. At any given age until you're about 70+, individuals in a population have a close-to 38% chance to develop cancer at some point in their lives, so even small percentage increases are significant in nominal figures.

All I could think of was... Lucy in the sky with diamonds...

This is the kind of thing as to why France is being pressured away from changing its grid from nuclear, and that's really sad.

Someone should alert the military that all you need is some water and fissioning rods to get megaton-range explosions, not highly complex and sophisticated thermonuclear devices.

And you don't even need a Hans.

Elon Musk is basically the most successful Indiegogo campaign manager in existence. Just repackaging old ideas and getting fools to invest in them.

@miguellopez3392 Tesla was putting a $45,000 battery in their vehicles which they're hoping will be down to about $10,000 by the time customers are needing to pay to have them replaced. SpaceX isn't profitable and already has a worse success record than NASA.

@miguellopez3392 The point was that when Tesla was putting those batteries in the car, they were $45,000. That's almost double the price of some electric cars from major manufacturers, just in the battery. So, yeah, better performance because you're spending $90K on an electric car as opposed to $25K. After 15 years, the batteries will be at about 50% at best. Use some damn paragraphs. Standing on the shoulders of geniuses from 60 years ago and boasting a non-100% success rate is just sad.
