"Acting outside the law to protect others is vigilantism and therefore punishable by law." Not during the fact. Vigilantism kicks in after the fact.

@girlville That's quite the overreaction from you. I was just wanting to understand how what you replied followed with the issue of human nature I brought up. I was hoping you'd explain your plan a little better. But since you want to jump to an aggressive take, you must be having a day, so have a better day, I guess.

I think opening agencies such as police and protective agencies to civil suits would just promote them to be more aggressive, thereby promoting them to infringe on the liberties of the innocent. In that, I don't think there's a clear moral case to be had here.

@girlville I'm not sure how that follows as a reply to my post.

@girlville You haven't even yet explained how your reply logically follows the point I made in my post.

The issue with this is that under no circumstance should an innocent person be convicted of a crime -- or otherwise have their life, liberty, and property infringed upon -- in which case that innocent person finds themselves arguably worse off under government than they would have been in a state of anarchy. In that, promoting agents of governmental agencies to be more aggressive in infringing on the rights of people in order to avoid civil suit would doubtlessly be a move in the wrong direction. It's worth noting along with this that during the fact, the people have not rescinded the natural right of attaining their own justice. However, we really need to make Blackstone's ratio front-and-center to our legal system.
