Very cool. Unfortunately, living in a rural, conservative area of Japan, we don’t have many characters like that around. Kei-trucks on the other hand, lllllots of ‘em. 😆 🍻

Looks like a nice area for light hiking & camping. It seems to me that "lost and forgotten" MAY be a bit of an over-dramatization, though. (A trail that's not on Google Maps? Must be LOST AND FORGOTTEN! lol) Well, I guess the point is that there is a region like this so close the Tokyo metropolis that isn't over-developed. That is pretty surprising and cool. But just for contrast, almost none of the trails in my area are on Google maps...

Cool video! If anyone is interested, there’s an abandoned school listed in my local ‘akiya bank’. A bit older (Meiji era?), but it’s a nice location…and cheap! 😆

Agreed! 😆 And since we’re on the topic, a couple of months back I explored an old abandoned Meiji era school (I live in central Japan) that looks a lot like Satsuki’s school in Totoro. (I took video if anyone wants to check it out!)

Wow, that was absolutely beautiful. How have I lived in Japan for 20 years and not known about this place?? And it’s only a couple hours drive from where I live! (Mie prefecture) Thank you for introducing this place, I will check it out soon!

Cool idea! Your timing is good, (assuming Japan actually opens up the border properly for tourists) people should be able to use this trick to save money when they come here to visit the new Ghibli theme park. (Opening this November!)

Well, it would depend if any ‘Kami’ were angered by the original construction of the school... like if they didn’t do a proper Shinto ritual when before the ground-breaking, or moved a sacred stone in the process or something. THEN you might get bad stuff happening, haunting, etc. (There’s a house in my neighborhood like that.) I don’t get that vibe here though. In my opinion, schools built in that era aren’t particularly creepy, even when they’re abandoned. A Meiji era school, on the other hand, would be a bit creepier. (I actually just explored one of those a couple of months back. (Anyone wanna see the video??)
