  1. Japan never reach summit in IC industry except memory chip!!! Why? memory chips is hardware intensive process, not design or circuit R&D process. So , at the time, Japan buy all American lithigraphy machines at any cost on the top and newest model ,then copying it. Thus a bunch of made in Japan cheap machines can easily conpete to US. Don't US aware of it? Yes, they did. But their geopolitic in boosting Japan made them neglect the point. They knew well they can beat them down whenever they want.

  2.  @ntabile  Perhaps you don't know. Both ASML and TSMC number one major shareholder is American sovereign funds. Ofcourse it's hidden US's govt funds disguised in private sectors,same as American govt pays to Korea big businesses.
