  5. While i agree with you, remember that every street market in poor countries sell fake nikes. 101 percent fake and cheap! Send them back, nothing wrong with that, but word it better or no one will listen. They are lied to and exploited by smugglers. There is no dream left its safer for them to stay in their own countries. They mess up the labor market for citizens. Offer aid to central american countries on condition they beef up their border security and turn back visaless migrants en route Nothing crazy or racist about that.

Messing with flood plains is not a good idea as they are something which have developed from millions of years of bad weather. Hydrologists can give more detailed answer but basiclly if you start digging you will screw up the natural flow of water and it will screw things up more. Flood plains with their marshland are actually better than massive trees at capturing carbon and managing heavy rain fall.
