  1. The West makes the mistake of assuming the people of Afghanistan have the same concept of a “nation” with a central government and national identity. But the only people that see Afghanistan as 1 country are the people outside of Afghanistan. It’s really just a bunch of tribes that don’t care very much for each other. Trying to force them into a unified front was never going to work.
