  1. It’s not a strategy. Ukraine simply can’t mount any counteroffensive. They are forced to hold their position or perform “tactical withdrawals.” It’s the Russians that are choosing to do a patient siege. They are in no rush.

  2. So, we’ve gone from “Ukraine is winning and Russia is losing badly” to “it’s a stalemate.” And it’s not a stalemate if Russia is gaining territory every day. Striking behind enemy lines is not something special, as Russia does it daily.

  5.  @iura0  how much land would satisfy you? 20% a day? 50%? And where are you getting the 30,000 figure from? And Pisky and Bakhmut are heavily fortified parts of the defensive line. Once that’s shattered, there’s not much else standing in Russia’s way.

  9.  @timmommens901  as opposed to Ukraine doing the same to their ethnic minorities? And war always has a cost. America has been at war since it’s birth, and it seems to keep going. Why is it suddenly a big deal when Russia is in one?

  10.  @dylanvogler2165  the Soviets did the heavy lifting for most of WW2. The US only swept in at the very end to take credit. And if Ukraine is losing to an expeditionary force, then how does your logic compute that an actual Russian military force would fare worse? And I’d say America has lost (or at least “not won”) every modern war it’s fought post-WW2.

  11.  @iura0  because that’s the point of a defensive line, to prevent going around. Russia is probing the entire line and exploiting points of failure. It’s not something they need to get sloppy and hurry with.

  12.  @dylanvogler2165  is there an example of an “offensive war” with good gains? Afghanistan? And now you’re splitting hairs with WW2. Fact is, America came in at the tail end of the war, after the Allies had done most of the fighting. The US since then has only picked on little guys.

  16.    even then, who is reporting this? BBC? Ukraine news? Those men would be tied up training for months (and that’s just for basic training). By the time they return, the war might be over.

How is Russia about to fire thousands of shells every day? The West is projecting their own inadequacies, because it is they that are unprepared for a large scale war.
