I hate how the first thing the new trilogy does is immediately bring back the Rebels vs Empire dynamic, even though it makes no sense.

+tubby turtle, but where was Snoke getting all those resources and funding? Where was he recruiting all his troops? How was he able to do all this without anyone knowing? Also, I find it highly stupid that the New Republic would not listen to Leia. They didn't even bother to do a cursory investigation? None of it makes sense. Again, I hate that we didn't get to see the New Republic in action and the went straight back to the tired dynamic of Empire vs Rebels.

tubby turtle the movies should not have to rely on supplemental material to tell a story. All of the books should just be sprinkles on a cake; not the cake itself. We never got a chance to see the New Republic in action and the existence of the Resistance in the winning side makes no sense. And the First Order definitely needed more explanation.

tubby turtle because the EU is NOT supplemental material. The EU was essentially the only Star Wars material we could get for decades until Lucas decided to do the Prequels. They were pretty much just glorified fan fiction. For the Disney trilogy, they are purposely leaving out vital information in hopes that we buy the books to fill in the gaps. That’s NOT what a movie is supposed to do. Episodes 1-6 did not rely on this gimmick.

tubby turtle are you high? You are getting lost in the weeds now. We don’t need to question the formation of the Empire, because that is our introduction to the universe, and it’s understood that they are the existing power structure. You don’t need to go back 30 years. But Disney is asking is to believe that some parallel military power was able to build an even bigger military without anyone knowing? That’s retconning and treating your audience like idiots.
