  2. The only “renovations” I’ve ever done is typically for safety/security such as putting deck screws in place of the standard screws in the outside doors, installing stronger strike plates, upgrading locks (ensuring I notify the landlord and provide a key copy).

For example, if you want it good and cheap, it won’t be fast. You want it fast and cheap, it won’t be good. If you want it good and fast, it won’t be cheap. Unfortunately today, you can’t even have any of the three. They are built fast and cheap, and sold at a ridiculous amount of money. Disgusting. My cousin built a beautiful French country style grey stone home. It took him years to build it, as he did “pay as you go”, and went phase by phase. He had to buy in unincorporated county land, outside of city limits so as to avoid permits, variances, and other NIMBY-pimby nonsense by nosy, busybody neighbors. Plus, he has lower property taxes.

  7. Hell, I remember the “Lofts” in the attempted gentrification of Los Angeles. They’re in what are now horrible or even worse neighborhoods, and some of them have had problems such as squatters breaking into vacant units, bedbug outbreaks, and other problems as well.
