*slams door and the whole house comes tumbling down to the Rowan and Martin Laugh-In theme* There was a time when if you wanted a house built, you had options of:
Good
Fast
Cheap
You could only have two, but that eliminates the third factor. For example, if you want it good and cheap, it won’t be fast. You want it fast and cheap, it won’t be good. If you want it good and fast, it won’t be cheap. Unfortunately today, you can’t even have any of the three. They are built fast and cheap, and sold at a ridiculous amount of money. Disgusting.
My cousin built a beautiful French country style grey stone home. It took him years to build it, as he did “pay as you go”, and went phase by phase. He had to buy in unincorporated county land, outside of city limits so as to avoid permits, variances, and other NIMBY-pimby nonsense by nosy, busybody neighbors. Plus, he has lower property taxes.
