Consider the following: ALL restaurant workers, especially including waitresses and waiters, should ALL receive at least minimum wage if not more. Tips are just that, tips. Tips are not wages, or at least should not be.

@ashleighsparkle8810 Here in Michigan, as I understand it to be, a waiter or waitress makes way less than normal minimum wage, and the tips they receive are supposed to bring the employee's wage up to the normal minimum wage rate. If it doesn't, then the employer is supposed to make up the difference (of which I believe does not always occur), so that the employee should still receive minimum 'normal' minimum wage. I believe this is wrong and should be fixed. A waitress or waiter should make 'normal' minimum wage at an absolute minimum, tips should be extra. Tips are a bonus for doing a good job, not the wage in and of itself. Or so how I believe it should be.

@jt8251 And how does one learn a valuable skill without having any money to even live on?
2
@jt8251 "Working in fast-food is not a career." Oh and also, all the people at corporate for these fast-food restaurants are not making fast-food a career???
2
@jt8251 Oh and also: "My argument is working in a fast-food restaurant serving food to customers should not be a career/life-long job. It's a stepping stone to hopefully something better." Who are you to determine what makes another person happy?
2
@jt8251 "I hope career fast-food workers seek to learn a more valuable skill." Your hope is noted, but your hope is not necessarily other's hope. As far as learning more valuable skills, what are businesses doing to improve their workers status in life to be more productive and to allow them to properly be prepared to take on more responsibilities for the company so the company can do better and expand with qualified long time employed workers?

@jobegruen4273 Would an AI CEO allow more money to be given to the stockholders??? Toss out the CEO's and their cohorts as well.

Order food with an app and a robot hands the customers the food?

@jooson2826 Michigan for one.

@jt8251 And yet, it's still a career concerning fast-food.
1
@jt8251 You don't think that people with Down's Syndrome who work in a fast-food restaurant should get at least 'normal' minimum wage???
1
@jt8251 "I'm not arguing against minimum wage. Anyone working a job deserves minimum wage." So then, long story shortened, you agree with my opening statement: "ALL restaurant workers, especially including waitresses and waiters, should ALL receive at least minimum wage if not more."
1
@jt8251 Oh and also: "Their jobs will be automated in the near future." So, what kind of job can they get that pays at least minimum wage so that they can still live?
1
@mizusenshisongs Sure it's legal to do, but I believe it's wrong and should be changed. Waitresses and waiters should be paid at least minimum wage, tips being extra, not part of their normal wage.

@BigBoy-bx1dw AI robot eventually breaks the customer one way or another?
1
@BigBoy-bx1dw Malfunction, malfunction, malfunction. (wink, wink).
1
@BigBoy-bx1dw Sorry. Must have been a solar flare that disrupted my programming. Act of the 'robot God'.
