  1. Freezer trick: Put a small coin on top of an ice cube. If the freezer loses power for a prolonged period of time, (especially if you are away for quite a while), the coin would settle down from the top of the ice cube. Even if the ice cube refroze, the coin would still show that the freezer lost enough cooling to drop the coin down.
