  1. Very large fossil fuel dependent military + rising fossil fuel costs = destroyed economy and/or smaller military. (Basic math). Fossil fuels will not last for all of future eternity and other nations know this too. It's a waiting game as the USA destroys itself. Then other nations that are already moving towards a hydrogen driven economy will be better positioned than the USA. If the USA does not change it's ways, at a minimum by going to hydrogen and/or other green energy technologies for it's main economy while preserving the fossil fuels for it's military and airlines, then it's just a matter of time as the USA destroys itself. Getting off of fossil fuels is a national security issue as well as to preserve the USA itself. Yes, the USA owes a great debt of gratitude to the fossil fuel industry, credit given where credit due. But now those same fossil fuel companies will destroy this USA if they don't change their ways. Shell is already implementing hydrogen in some of their service stations in this world. What about other fossil fuel companies following suit for longer term profitability even? Build hydrogen pipelines not natural gas pipelines even. Hydrogen is the most abundant element in this universe and natural gas will eventually be depleted just as oil is being depleted.
