Consider also, the US Fed has a target of 2% inflation every year. But that is also 2% on top of all the 2%'s that came before it, which turns out to be a lot of inflation over time.
Now first, if people's wages, benefits and saving's account's interest do not keep up with the true cost of inflation, they fall behind in buying power. They eventually could become economic slaves to the larger economy. And slavery was supposed to be done away with at least here in the USA.
Second, space travel, the ONLY thing that might save any species from this Earth, has gotten more expensive just in my lifetime. What is space travel going to cost in the next 100, 1000, 1 million years from now? Economic inflation just might be a contributing factor to the demise of all life from this planet Earth. And we did it to ourselves. Or more correctly the US Fed did it to us all, including themselves. And they are supposed to be the 'smart' ones.
Instead of talk like doing away with the penny, they should actually be trying to bring back and maintain the value of the penny. Otherwise, we all eventually die one day from something and go extinct, which is probably going to occur anyway, but without economic inflation, we would have a better chance of surviving. With economic inflation, less so.
What good is life if there is no entity left to live it?

@Michael Hadlock Along those same lines, and not to change the subject concerning global financing, but oil is valued in US Dollars. Many nations are currently moving their nation to utilizing Hydrogen and are getting away from fossil fuels for various reasons, one of which for many is energy independence. Plus, then they don't have to expend resources fighting for and maintaining fossil fuels. For them, it's just the right thing to do. But then that also would take away from the USA's dominance in the energy sector on this Earth, hydrogen also being the most abundant element in this universe.
(If anybody wants to learn more, see my Twitter page under the same name as this comment to see years worth of information concerning hydrogen and what many nations are doing with hydrogen. Of course also, one could do a Google search to learn more as well.)
USA: Very large fossil fuel dependent military + Rising fossil fuel costs = Destroyed economy and/or Smaller military.
If the USA moved this nation to utilizing hydrogen, like many nations are already doing, the remaining fossil fuels could be utilized for the military and businesses like airlines, who are also highly fossil fuel dependent.
China and other nations are moving past the USA in more ways than just money, with less national debt too.

@Michael Hadlock Hydrogen, it's happening. It's not just the future, it's already here now. And from a money perspective, for those who know what they are doing and have the resources to do so, there is money to be made, even internationally in the hydrogen sector.
(And disclosure: I am not currently affiliated with any Hydrogen industries.)
I even had made my own hydrogen fuel generator prototype utilizing solar energy and water just to prove the concept to myself. It works.
Many nations are drilling under the ocean and polar ice caps for fossil fuels when usable energy is in the water and ice caps themselves. I won't say they are idiots, but .......................................
With nuclear, the issue becomes what to do with the nuclear waste. The USA used to just dump it in the oceans and utilize it for tanks shells during some wars, (the density of the waste being very dense and doing a lot of damage, but also contaminating what it hits with radioactive material). Plus, nuclear reactors give off a lot of neutrinos, that sure, most go right through us, but not all of them do, which can cause damage to DNA.
From my perspective, currently Hydrogen is the way to go.
(Until at least if I can ever find some entity to do my gravity test for my Theory Of Everything idea, and if proven to be really true, tapping into the very nature of reality itself, the 'gem' photon). But now we are getting off topic for this video and this thread's discussion.
