My theory is that bronze aged societies also collapsed for similar reasons as to Rome and the US, crippling bureaucratic bloat accrued over the years just chokes out the life of any institution - its just sexier and more fun to assign the bronze age collapse to "sea people" or some plague in the lost history of the distant past.
