How's the bands in the Nashville area Rick? Seems like that's one place where music is still alive.

Music across the board has lost its drive and soul.

No executive at a public corporation thinks beyond this quarter.

Its easier to push nepotism and agendas with just 1 person.

Nobody is funny anymore either.

Bands have "traditionally" been anti-authoritarian, and major corporate labels will no longer promote that.

I blame Nickelback.

One silver lining is there's tons of jaw dropping live performances on youtube of great bands - Allman Brothers (of course), Cream, Mountain, Ramones, Emmylou Harris and Hot Band, Beastie Boys, Blondie, Canned Heat.......

Music has lost its groove.

Remember staying up late to watch Conan to watch Smashing Pumpkin, STP, Beastie Boys, etc.,? Man everything is terrible nowadays. It's kind of a reason I'm a bit of an insomniac xD

Things just feel different.

Kids today seem to be enjoying like 80s japanese bands, good for them. There's tons of "alternative" (not Kurt Cobain but bands Cobain would like) bands from the 70s of the 90s that are awesome that many probably never heard of.

Out of the blue and into the black They give you this, but you pay for that And once you're gone you can never come back When you're out of the blue and into the black

I will miss synergy the great bands have, where talented musicians feed off each other to produce something that is greater than the sum of their parts.

Culture is dead in general. In other fields like movies, tvs, and games, we blame millenials, and their terrible writing for one. Probably something similar is going on in music. The timing coincides, as everything started becoming bad near the start of the 21sr century.

Blink 182 and SOAD were the last great bands.
1
Music industry in general is pretty much dead and broke, there are many famous artists trying to do what you do Rick.

There's been a general trend for 100 years towards more economical musical acts in popular music, and popular music was great for about 100 years. BIg band/musicals/classical -> Bass+Rhythm+Melody on guitar -> Synthesized/keyboard. So that trend alone doesn't necessarily explain why music is bad nowadays.
