@brutus6574 Those modes of travel gave way naturally, by market forces, to more capable and efficient ones. In this case, the government is mandating the use of less capable, less efficient ones in the name of more government control over our lives.

@brutus6574 You are ignorant of history. Once government restrictions like this begin - always in the name of the "safety," "security," or "health" of the population (or lately, the planet) - they only become more and more restrictive, until nobody has any freedom.

@richardelliott8352 What's 200 years? China took thousands of years to end up in totalitarianism; the Weimar Republic succumbed after only 14. Look at the latter: the restrictions against certain peoples in Germany were gradually, gradually phased in. Government and big business teamed up to turn people against each other to eventually end up with total control over their lives. Look at the USSR: the government was very soft on crime, allowing robbers and murderers to run free while prosecuting people who defended themselves (to keep them cowed and easy to control) and not allowing them to own anything. Meanwhile, more and more laws were put in place regarding freedom of expression; those, the police enforced ruthlessly. Does any of this sound familiar? I wouldn't be surprised if our PM, to the north of you, if he ever got a majority, would outlaw voting, calling it racist or homophobic. Don't laugh.
