  1. Sorry, but your timeline is all wrong. Britain started to displace the Mughals in the 1700s. The Dutch began to settle South Africa in the 1700s. The technological superiority of the Europeans began on the mid-late 17th century - which is coincident with the height of the Ottoman expansion (for a reason...) America settlers would not have been able to survive if it weren't for technological superiority. Population is the main thing that held back colonial expansion. It was the population boom of the 1800s that enabled more rapid expansion - not just because of the people, but because of the reason for the population boom: improved faming and food preservation techniques.
