  2. Having Off Grid Heating for the home will be crucial even if its just a cheap Calor Gas Portable heater. Having something as simple as a Hot Water Vacuum Flask or two can also provide hot drinks through out the day in the winter, when Grid Electricity could be down in a rolling black out during the mornings and evenings during peak electrical grid demand. Having some Camping type Freeze Dried meals (although expensive) could be provide a hot meal from the hot water from the Vacuum flask in extreme circumstances.

  3. Get warm clothing. Search around for good quality wool clothing and foot wear to survival the coldest of winters. Shooting Suppliers and outfitters are a good source for quality and durability. For example I was able to get a Barbour Women's Lambswool Sweater for £40 (RRP £100) for my mum. Do as much as can be physically done as many folks are in complete denial as what is about to happen. This winter is going to be brutal once the Energy and Electrical Rolling Black Outs are introduced. Most folks don't even have a Working Torch to see in the dark in their own homes.

Don't forget to purchase the Snivel items as well, Warm Wool Hats (US Army Wool beanies are good and pretty cheap), Gloves, socks (NATO Antarctic RM Wool make good bed socks), Thermal underwear and even woolen Balaclavas. Ventile clothing although expensive also is excellent for indoor cold weather use being quiet and comfortable to wear in combination with Merino Woolens mid layers.

  8. If at all possible get Propane Bottles rather than LGP or Butane for cooking. Propane will work down to -20 Degrees Celsius and lower where as LPG Butane will not evaporate very well inside the bottles below Freezing temperatures. As these resources become restricted over time home heating might not even possible with these gas bottles and rationing the fuel for purely cooking and boiling water on a boiling ring stove might be required then Propane would be more suitable in sub freezing conditions.
