Of course now that the Nord Stream Energy Supply Natural Gas supply (40% of all Germany's energy requirements) has been taken out by the US, there is no way back this winter for the Europeans as the industrial heartlands of Germany Collapse. Putin must have surely been surprised just how much the greed of the War profiteering the Western Energy speculators have and continue to be.
