  1. 30,000 British-Canadian soldiers died in the battle of Caen during World War 2 during the Normandy Battle after D-Day, which eventually led the the destruction of a German Army in the Faliase pocket or Gap. Caen would have been smaller than Bakhmut in 1944. The names of Kursk and El Alamein were just small towns and cities in WW2 as well but were all crucial in the final outcome of defeating the 3rd Reich.
