I thought that they were paid mercenaries or at the very least Special Forces operating as 'Humanitarians' gathering targeting Intel for NATO supplied weapons, which killed hundreds of Russians on New Years Eve, who were then killed along with the Russian Claims of retaliatory strikes which killed around 600 Ukrainians military a few days later.
