I bought a Samsung device a few years ago. I paid a pretty penny for it and I got a device where pre-installed, uninstallable bloatware took gigabytes of storage and blasted me with ads about all kinds of welcome gifts and "deals" I was fortunate to have since I had bought a Samsung device. I swore never to buy anything from them again.

@donovangunther4538 "corporatism is basically socialism/communism" So, in corporatism the workers own the companies? What are you smoking man..

I too pay for a lot of things that provide me some value.. it's just that Youtube doesn't seem to respect content creators or me as a person.. so I'm not giving them money. Also, 99% of the content on the corporate web is just hustle-content with very little value.. And yes, I also don't believe that the ads actually work. That's a multi-billion (at least) dollar industry that's just wasting resources and everybody's time. Maybe some day that reality will hit.

@goyonman9655 Carlin wasn't in the club he was talking about. His net worth was probably around $10 mil when he died. There are people who make much more than that in a day. There's a huge gap between very wealthy people and some joe-schmoe millionaires. Huge gap in power as well. Many people think millions would be a lot of money and yeah it would make their lives easier but that isn't even remotely close to making you wealthy.

@CoasterMan13Official well, they're very much democratic so I don't why you'd use them as examples..

In today's world I'm an extremist because I want workers around the world to be well-treated, adequately paid and have a healthy work-life balance. I'm an extremist because I'm against overconsumption and want longevity, sustainability, repairability and actual ownership of products. I'm an extremist because I'm a privacy advocate and don't want companies or states to spy on people. Well, I don't care what you label me. You know what I care even less about? Ad industry. The sooner that cancer is wiped out the better.

To me it's not rational to expect to find a replacement for reddit that already has all the engagement, reddit is so huge that it has sucked the life out of so many other places. However, I will shreddit my account before the month is over and not come back. Reddit has been one of my most used websites but .. I need to be the change I want to see. We can't continue using centralized, privately-owned services and not expect enshittification to follow. At some point the squeeze will happen: the exchange from user good-will to money. This is why we need decentralized platforms that are not owned by any single agent. I'll be over at lemmy/kbin.

When "progress" is driven by greed instead of need we get shit like this and it is not making the world a better place.

As long as companies can do a shitty thing and make more money than not doing the shitty thing.. they're going to do the shitty thing... The system where profit trumps pretty much everything is not good for us humans or the planet.

I got a moderately expensive Brother laser printer. Six months after the warranty expired it stopped working. I tried hard to find what was wrong with it .. and then I found other people complaining about the same problem/error on Brother forums and their answer was "hey, here are a few other models you can buy to replace it"... I was done with it. Brother is probably less shitty than HP (which isn't hard) but that left very sour taste in my mouth.
