  1.  @tonyye8680  It was part of China until the Japanese took over in the last century. It was then given to China in 1945. The defeated KMT fled there and took over, suppressing the local population. Decades of military dictatorship followed. The KMT claimed it as part of China and were waiting for their opportunity to reunite it to the mainland, but couldn't. So they and the CPC both claim it to be part of China.

And yet China is developing well at present and doesn't have democracy with political parties etc. Does that matter as long as it's doing well? Sorry I didn't write more details, but this is only a comment board, not a university.

  5.  @tonyye8680  Do you realise that Karl Marx said that Communism was the final stage of a society, not a way for a poor country to become richer. Mao did what he could, but was doomed to fail. Deng Xiaoping must have read a couple more chapters. Xi Jingping read thm too.
