@war-painter That's because the Japanese had brought death and destruction to South East/East Asia over a period of many years, including the massacre in Nanjing and a secret "medical" research centre that carried out awful experiments on people without anaesthetics. @plmokm33 Perhaps you wouldn't mind being occupied by a foreign power? The South, under THEIR dictator didn't want reunification, the North did. Had reunification come who knows what would have happened? There wouldn't be a huge American garrison there, so the North's fear of an American invasion wouldn't lead to nuclear weapons being built. If you believe the South, at the time, was the KPop, suicide, plastic surgery loving country it is now, you're wrong. Look up American and South Vietnamese massacres during the war. t won't change your mind; too solidified, but i might make you go Mmm. Try doing a bit of reading on the subject, it might make you think a bit harder.
