  1. I get compliments on my hair all the time. But people don’t randomly reach out to touch it. Or ask if they could out of curiosity. (Except closest friends maybe.) But I’m white. Black women get that frequently. I don’t think most people doing the asking mean to put them in such an awkward position. It’s got to be annoying and insulting having your personal space entered or being treated like a freak. I look at it like touching a pregnant woman’s belly. Strangers probably shouldn’t do it. And certainly not without asking. But it puts the pregnant woman in an uncomfortable situation. And she only has to deal with that for half a year where her belly is noticeable, as opposed to a black woman who has to deal with that her whole life.
