I dunno, some people have real anxiety about flying. And she was facing an upcoming surgery. Obviously, a dog would be a better choice since we’ve now learned rodents aren’t allowed on planes. For me, that’s what alcohol is for! 😄

Hey man, don’t knock ratties 😉 they’re great pets!

Maybe she didn’t have the money for another flight, and they would turn the plane around and arrest her back at the terminal for not cooperating with flight staff? I have no idea. Lol. Not hating on hamsters, but sometimes they bite. If it were my choice it’d be a pet rat. 😁 They’re not as “cute” and fuzzy as hamsters, but they’re like the dogs of the rodent pets!

As silly as this story sounds, I lean toward believing the girl. If she brought a cage for it and food and everything, that’s an investment and plan to keep the pet. This is a hamster, not some wild creature she spotted on a whim walking into the airport, and just went “oh yeah, let me see if I can get away with this! If not, I’ll just flush it down the toilet after taking a selfie. That’ll really make my parents and friends proud.”

Yikes. And snakes on a plane, yeah. No thank you. 😁 We saw how that goes down.

Maybe this could be solved by having separate seating areas: one for those in need of service animals, and one for those with allergies. Pet dander doesn’t carry nearly as far as cigarette smoke (so it wouldn’t be as silly as sectioning off half of one large room for smokers at a restaurant). I’m a smoker myself, so I’m not hating on them. Just considerate of fellow diners and non-smokers.

Impostor! Us real animal lovers know there’s a difference between gerbils and hamsters! But give your cuz our condolences.

Maybe I was spacing out reading comments while the story played, did she have cage/carrier or was that a stock photo?

Yes, that’s true. I’ve had almost every household pet known to man at some point in my life. We had to sacrifice the upholstery on a piece of furniture to retrieve one of our rodents 😝 imagine a plane. Yikes

I’m shocked you’re the only one who made that joke! Maybe people here are too young to remember that rumor.

😝 what, twist its neck like a chicken??

They already have my emotional support alcohol on the plane 😆

I thought maybe enlarged thyroid, but since they said growth most likely a tumor.

Oh man, really? 😮

If somebody told me to kill my pet I’D WANT to punch them in the face! Better? If it was a matter of me losing hundreds of dollars and maybe being arrested though, I think probably I’d flush the poor lil bugger if it were just a hamster. If it were a cat or dog, I’d be outta options. But then, no airline staff in their right mind (no matter how draconian they were) would think to ask you to flush your cat or dog!

Boats kinda obvious. Trains are kinda expensive, especially when you consider how much longer time a train trip is than a flight. I’ve enjoyed some great train trips, but they’re not a huge discount and you have to be able to allot for many more hours. Just like driving, but on somebody else’s schedule. Private rooms, dining car, and the observation car are fun.
