  4. We are intellectually isolated here in the USA and don't get much international news except for certain topics. We have to self educate and go seeking news. It's just not covered in much depth on TV, and newspapers are becoming obsolete with a big reduction in staffing since the money is drying up and everything is about digital clicks now. Was awful the things that happened in Chechnya. That's where Putin's forces brought tanks in and bombed residential apartment high-rises, right? I read about it at the time and was horrified. I wonder also if in addition to our ignorance, the suppression of free press in Russia also reduced the exposure to the rest of the world. Or threw in counter Rd-herring stories to detract or reframe the events in the establishment's favor.
