I’d be careful about calling people simple, if you’re taken in by a marketer who talks out of both sides of his mouth, and feel all nice and cozy toward Putin because he said something about human trafficking. Maybe start with Wikipedia and the deaths and imprisoning of journalists in Russia. Or remembering Putin talking about their “fine prostitutes” in Russia when discussing Trump. Even though prostitution is illegal and punished there. Saying or doing a few good things as a leader (which is supposed to be a given??) doesn’t somehow erase the bad things that leader does and says.
