If Bernie has been the forerunner in the primary (and then lost against Trump as she did), how would you like Hillary to be blamed for Bernie’s loss against Trump? Hillary and Debbie wasserman Schultz railroaded other democratic candidates too. They just weren’t popular like Bernie and dropped out early. If they stayed in, they would’ve been fighting tooth and nail against the Clinton machine. But you’d be blaming them too if they’d gone further, I suppose. I guess in your world candidates (named Clinton) aren’t supposed to be challenged? And those not named Clinton are supposed to have both arms tied behind their back. If she was so weak (of a candidate, not as a person) that she couldn’t take the little bit that Bernie challenged her with, how did you expect her to survive the maelstrom from her Republican challenger? Do you also have this characterization of Barack Obama from the 2008 campaign? That was pretty brutal. I guess Obama is Nader 2.0 then also? Or would have been had he lost the primary. Phew. Lucky for Clinton she lost in 2008. Or you’d be calling President Obama a Ralph Nader for fighting back against the vicious smears Hillary’s campaign threw his way. Or maybe you’re not old enough to remember all that so you don’t know what you’re talking about.

  15. Actually there was a poll a couple of days before the election. Bernie still beat Trump in the poll by over double what Hillary did. Despite him being out of the race and the news for over 4 months at that point. I’m not Bernie or bust. I just want him to run and get a fair shake this time, because I think he’ll win and he’s what our country needs.

  33. Richard Parisi I saw it all happening too, and it made me ill. But Debbie wasserman Schultz couldn’t get out of the damn way and kept alienating Bernie supporters. So did Hillary’s camp. I literally cried when Las Vegas happened. It felt like after all the other underhanded biased things the DNC under her direction pulled finally broke the camels back. I said, “oh shit...she just doesn’t know when to shut up and she just got Trump elected.” Then when Wikileaks came out, instead of owning up and sincerely apologizing to the public for what everyone now had proof of, they shut up. Debbie stepped down, but that was not nearly enough. Hillary hired her right after. That was the nail in the coffin. My facebook was filled with “see you in Philly”. DWS and the DNC of 2016 couldn’t have been more intentionally blind to what unrest there was in the party. Hillary and the DNC thought just having the purse strings and the power and the media in their corner was enough. ANYBODY could see that wasn’t the case. Even Bernie campaigned for her afterward and implored his supporters to vote for her, because he put aside his personal affront and saw the bigger picture. I did too, but I understood why others felt too betrayed to just “get over it”.

  34. a reader I live in Orange County. It was pretty amazing how the 2018 midterms turned out. On election night, some Republicans were preliminarily in the lead. But as the rest of the ballots were counted over the following weeks, those leads dwindled and flipped. It was a big deal!

  40. doug thompson I’m sure there are some who are generally worried about his electability. But that’s what polls are for. They don’t need to guess. And the pundits who are serious will already be following the polls. I love Bernie and always will but if it was obvious he’d had no chance, I wouldn’t have pinned my hopes on him and donated to his campaign regularly. The only presidential candidate polling ahead of Bernie so far is joe Biden. Everyone else is trailing behind. We’ll see how things shape up after candidates start officially announcing (hopefully by spring) and the polling numbers can be followed as time goes on.

Her polling average of only 3.2% against Trump made her vulnerable to any factor including Russia that could tip the scales, with such a sensitivity that tiny fluctuations could have a major impact. Especially since polls can average a 3-5% margin or error.
