My doctors office is literally moving to a new office because the office they’ve been at for over a decade has become too cramped. I asked, did you bring on a new doctor, or are you taking internships or what? No, he said they still have the same two doctors they’ve always had...but they needed so much staff to handle billing and collections and insurance paperwork. I unzipped my jacket and showed him my Bernie T-shirt and asked...what do you think? He smiled and said, yes definitely!

Dang that blows. One good thing - and I have very few good things to say about private for profit insurance - is that they often have an agreed upon limit for what a doctor can charge for a service. Say a visit costs $200, the dr who accepts that insurance agrees to the insurance companies amount for payment. If the insurance company says $150 is the amount they will pay for an office visit, the bill will end up being Ø for the patient. On the drs itemized invoice, it will read $200 office visit -150 insurance reimbursement -50 adjustment _ $0 due It wouldn’t hurt to call your insurance company and double check if your doctors office is actually allowed to charge the patient the excess. (Maybe they are, but maybe they’re breaking their agreement with the insurance company.)
