  1. The environment is filled with lead. It's even in dirt. Long term exposure is obviously bad however. Delta Force used what they called a "shooting house" but didn't ventilate it properly. After years and millions of rounds of use many long time operators did in fact have serious health problems.

  2. I think the tiny plate on top of the wood caused the sprayback. Fragments bounced upward from it and back into the target plate that threw them out. The wood would have caught most of the debris by itself.
