  1. I say two layers of that bathroom tile(placed so the gaps in the tiles are staggered) wrapped similarly in duck tape(good stuff from 3M) would do amazingly well.

  2. How about some fiberglass? Make it yourself like JamieMantzel. Make it with several layers. It will be very rigid but it'll be worth it.
