  1. Coal pollution was once so bad in Europe that the trees were coated in black soot. It almost cause the extinction of a white/grey moth that used to be camouflaged on tree trunks. Once the tree trunks were covered in black soot predators could easily pick off the light colored moths. The river in Cleveland, OH once caught on fire. This happens everywhere during an industrial revolution.
