The fastest man made thing is a man hole cover that hit a speed of about 125,000 mph back in I think the 50’s / 60’s

The SR-71 is a great jet but it’s not a true Mach 3+ jet the SR-71’s flat speed 2198 mph that’s Mach 2,85 I know the higher up you go the temperature changes the speed of sound but for it to hit true Mach 3+ it would need to hit about 2310 mph for Mach 3 Mach 3,2 about 2440 mph and for Mach 3,5 about 2700 mph speed of sound is 767 mph flat speed that is the speed of Mach 1 the point that people can tell what Mach a jet can hit like the Eurofighter is 1550 mph Mach 2,0 the F-22 1498 mph Mach 1,8 and the F-35 1200 mph Mach 1,6 so the SR-71 true speed is ( Mach 2,85 2198 mph )

Random Guy The speed that is ( Mean Point ) is 767 mph. MPH is the same MPH to the ground like if you did 200 mph in the air that would be 200 mph on the ground the rotation of the earth has nothing to do with it it’s that at 767 mph is the speed used to work out what Mack a jet can hit like the Eurofighter 1550 mph using the mean point it’s Mack is 2,0 and the Concorde at 1354 mph again using the mean point it’s Mack is 1,7. The speed of the SR-71 is 2198 mph using the mean point it’s Mack is 2,86. Yes at 85,000 feet and the temperature was higher the speed of sound was easier to hit making the Mack reader in the SR-71 say Mack 3+ BUT that is changing the hight and the temperature you CANT change the MPH of the jet or the Mean Point of Mack 1 so the SR-71 has a true Mack of 2,86 NOT 3+. OK 👍🏻 hope this has helped
