The migrants know what they want so as long as there is a chance of success they will take high risks, Europeans meanwhile are disempowered, conflicted and leaderless is a civil war becoming a possibility again? Drift and fudge and human rights over citizens rights, what a way to destroy civilisation.

Masha Mitchell. What a pathetic view you have of life, because of any historical events you perceive as being not beneficial to countries we explored we should give up governing ourselves and let foreigners do as they please.

Muppets.

@MaximilianOOO491 Thank god only another 5 weeks left for this farce to run.

Revoke article 50 now and stop this pantomime, then we can have another referendum now that people have a bit more idea what the vote means. The question must be the same as last time with a few caveats, all ballot papers should include the identity of the voters, if leave wins again all remain voting politicians and elected local councillors should be removed from office after 12 months notice. Remain voting members of the public and former politicians should be encouraged to move to an EU state and banned from commenting publicly on Brexit with financial penalties and incarceration for serial offenders. If remain wins the same conditions should apply to leave voters plus the EU or the UK should provide financial assistance to leave voters who wish to emigrate if such is required for them to meet immigration criteria of the countries they choose to go to. (barring places such as Switzerland or Monaco for obvious reasons) Maybe capping the amount available at a level deemed to be reasonable would solve such problems.

Yes their are many examples in history of mighty civilisations that went the way of the Dodo, we are not above the laws of nature and those laws haven't changed.

@booshting3520 Isolation from the virus is the only workable solution available at present, if you have no contact with the virus you will not get it. Until the government can test to isolate those who have the virus from those who don't all you can do is try to limit your exposure to it. This will reduce the spread of the virus until there are some effective developments to alter the situation, there are three main categories of people to my knowledge, those that have the virus, those that don't and those who have had it and now have some immunity. The policies introduced by the chancellor virtually guarantees everybody's financial survival which is all that you can expect from him, the ability to pay essential bills or have them deferred with enough left over for food is the most you should expect in a time of crises from him. Organising society to prevent profiteering and help to keep people safe is the other main task of the government using whatever powers are necessary, people can make these tasks easier or harder by their behaviour and will suffer the consequences of their actions.

@malteaser507 Greece wrecked, Italy wrecked, Spain wrecked, Portugal wrecked, France teetering, Germany faltering and Europes pollution to the environment because of EU membership I would guess is significantly higher. I would love to know the cost to the UK of MEP's wages expenses and pensions plus the loss of their considerable expertise (lol) to the UK.
3
@asanulsterman1025 There would have been a reckoning even without the UK leaving, nice to think they won't be picking our pocket any longer.
3
Everything he say's is perfectly logical just like the Maginot line was.
3
The EU didn't like it and thought they were going to get a better one, now they'll have to find their own.
3
Leap over sounds much better I think. But it's people who bring great evil upon people.
2
@TAGMATAGMATON I wonder if Italy and Spain are suffering from weak governance?
2
@boptah7489 Mays deal is a no Brexit deal so can be dispensed with which makes May a liar as she is going back on her own words. I agree Boris is the most credible candidate for her job and hope he gets it, as you say there is little detail to worry about over Brexit. The country needs a strong leader to govern for the UK not to govern an EU state, it's time this country stopped giving away so much while ignoring our own problems.
2
Shame China was a little late in recognising and admitting they had a problem and preventing people flying all around spreading covid 19.
2
@rabbitwho I think even 2 weeks ago there were probably 10,000 infected maybe more the majority only get mild symptoms or are asymptomatic, the government realised this and not having sufficient testing facilities at the time tried to preserve economic performance for as long as possible while steering people to accept the inevitable. An early lock down would have created more problems than it solved due to peoples attitude toward authority today.
2
@donaldboughton8686 Agreed May is causing serious damage to the Tories credibility but in reality they have been puppets to the EU since they got rid of Thatcher as have the Labour party, even Corbyn can see that. Fortunately May has a pragmatic nature so is possibly giving rise to the best outcome by trying to appease everyone she is exposing the dire state of British politics and more people are becoming aware the EU is no friend to the UK or good for Europe's future. The Eurozone is a timebomb due to go off soon with Italy the fuse, there economy has had negative growth for the last 2 quarters and debt is 17% of GDP they need to borrow more but can't cover the interest on the debt they already have and the ECB wants to end QE which will just make everything more difficult. But then economics has always been a secondary consideration for the EU.
2
@Durgesuth Many politicians have put personal ambition or greed before serving their country a problem that has escalated rapidly since our closer ties with the EU for the obvious reasons such as opacity, lack of democratic accountability and greater opportunity for greater rewards. I think fortunately our first past the post system may be our saviour if one is required, if enough of those 17+ million are prepared to vote for a brexit party at the next election that party would hold the balance of power if not outright control of parliament. Never have I seen so many political turkeys prepared to vote for Christmas.
2
You can fool some of the people all of the time etc.
2
@BillPinkNye To every action there is an equal and opposition reaction.

People in the West have lived well on a carnivorous diet, it must be time for a change.
1
I suppose I should have said losing politicians and councilors should be suspended on half pay for 12 months pending removal or whatever would be decided as appropriate and affordable, but given we are talking about such public spirited people they might decide to forgo any severance pay.
1
Are people still coming into the country untested for covid19?

The UK remainers seem to have an attitude stuck in what was prevalent in the 1960's ie ''love and peace man'' to see the reality of things just look at the football world cup to see the true attitude of nations, which is win at all cost by deceit and cheat. If the EU don't wish to agree a deal acceptable to us it will be better by far to take the initial effects of leaving without a deal to restructure our economy as an independent country and preserve our democracy. So the pound may lose 40% of it's value overseas initially and then settle 15-20% lower than today, do you seriously think business would not take advantage of such a big opportunity? Ok so you may have to holiday in the UK for a couple of years and drive something a little more sensible. The alternative is unclear, an EU army, centralised financial control in Brussels, the possibility of the EU in conflict with itself over immigration and many other unpleasant developments. European cooperation is possible without the EU and is so desirable it will be inevitable once sanity returns and we no longer have to kow tow to big business to fund the Greek, Italian and other struggling economies that are unsustainable with the Euro.
1
5 years from now I would be surprised if ordinary people don't wonder what all the fuss was about, a lot of them take this country and it's democracy so much for granted and without due consideration.
1
Patrick Doyle. I also agree if the EU's disassembling gets really messy we will be glad of our escape though there would inevitably be a financial cost to us as we are not a people to watch others suffer where we can help. It is surprising how bitter most EU people are I suppose that's the difference between dreamers and realists exemplified by the attitude of Colombian football supporters unable to see the truth of their teams attempt to cheat their way to what they would see as success where were we in their position we would just be embarrassed were we to win or lose.
1
If they don't know it now they will fairly soon.
1
Patrick. Interesting in the extreme the next few months will decide our future for decades if we leave, if we stay in I would say we'll be back here again within the ten years. What are the odds the Russian nerve gas entered Britain through Europe.
1
Ah I see your point, you mean we are the masters of our destiny. We have the weapons and can use them as we desire. World watch out.

Why is the number of teenagers committing suicide rising? Natural selection? Maybe Gaea is operating.
1
The UK is on course for exactly the same.
1
@memskara220 Maybe if the dead number 1M we'll get marshal law, could be a little controversial though, good thing so few people have guns in the UK they don't like obeying orders these days.
1
@mikexlr8 Depends whether you would rather put your trust in the mobs that would form under the control of the hardest bastards around or the police and the British Army I would prefer the latter, don't forget marshal law would mean summary execution for any disobediant actors which is my preferred option.
1
@mikexlr8 ''Ultimately you're responsible for your own protection'' This is true but has different connotations depending on the circumstances, I would prefer to have an automatic pistol for my own protection but this is illegal here so I have to content myself with relying on the state which has sufficed so far. Some will always die innocent or not no matter what laws exist, on balance I think the UK does better than many countries maybe by a smaller margin than previously. Their are probably improvements that should be made and maybe the current crises will bring into focus what can be changed to benefit us, I have long been in favour of capital punishment for instance. The future is not a given the views of the majority should have an influence in advanced cultures on the laws that govern them, the behaviour of minorities since this crises says much about our societies failures to date.
1
@ChristianIce Stick to the facts. Fact 1. It would be economically advantageous to the EU and the UK if a deal could be done. Fact 2. So far the negotiation has been on the withdrawal agreement only as the EU insisted, a deal on that was agreed between May's team and the EU'steam that is unacceptable to the UK parliament because of the backstop which keeps us under the EU's power in many areas indefinitely. So if that is the only obstacle to a deal why not limit the backstops existence to the end of the future relationship negotiations which if unsuccessful means we leave without a deal and won't need the backstop and if successful the same applies.
1
@CoalClear It's unavoidable people are waking up all over the world in greater numbers than ever as opposed to being woke.
1
maanvol you have no right to comment if you are not a British National.
1
@presidentelectzigenpuss3570 My comment was rather off the cuff, but his comment is a joke probably made to reassure his fading confidence or he's just a troll.
1
@ThomasBritz We are far to domesticated to do anything effective.
1
@surelyyoujokemeinfailure7531 Wanting the same rights as Canada you mean.
1
@surelyyoujokemeinfailure7531 We can source what we need from anywhere and afford to pay for it if we have to but I would prefer to be self sufficient, I doubt it would mean rationing as we had it after we won the last war with Europe. Try not to let your delusions about reality rule your head.
1
@Steven-mf7no Little Britain the sooner it is just a vague memory the better, yes.
1
@thackythac Revoke article 50 now and have another vote with peoples identities on the ballot paper if leave win then all people who want to be in the EU should move there, if remain wins leavers should move to a non EU country with financial assistance provided by the EU for making them stateless.
1
@thackythac I don't think there is a good solution as the situation should never have arisen but there has to be a solution that is better and fairer than any other.
1
@rogerjolla2358 Yeh you were drinking with a guy only yesterday and he gave you the inside story, yes.

John Hillman With mash.

Correct the Chinese are very busy in Africa, they know how to work with naive and corrupt governments, they don't need a leader who calls for China first policies.
1
The world is just about large enough to have space for everyone, the problem is humanities diversity and some peoples craving for power, glory and fame etc. Will we ever evolve sufficiently to accept our differences and control our cravings to use them for the benefit of everyone.
1
@donaldboughton8686 I think you're forgetting May is a remainer and is being pragmatic to keep herself in charge and try and keep the UK in the EU and avoid a Labour government, I can't make up my mind which outcome would be worst.
1
@donaldboughton8686 She is not solely responsible for the state of the country and government but she is responsible and the sooner the Tories find a suitable replacement the better, Rory Stewart looks promising.
