Roland Roland The lefties love the working classes, the love to keep them ignorant and poorly educated to make them easy fodder for their indoctrination B S. Fortunately this only works well on the naive youth and not all of them are interested, experience and an ability to think is the best antidote to the left.

@Fletch Gaming Lovely little Nationlist rant their son hope you get your Independence preferably on one of your little Hebridean islands, that would give you time to check some economic facts.

@Alex Mitchell People will remain stupid unless they take the trouble to educate themselves and learn from their own experiences, it sounds like you are doing just that. Look at the history of Socialist/Communist or whatever colour of left ideology has been in power and none are as successful as democratic capitalism at creating higher living standards for the majority and meeting human need. That does not mean there are not battles to be fought the trouble comes when the idealists try to throw the baby out with the bathwater, that is how great civilisations have always ended other than from external invasion.

@davidparry5310 A long winded way to say everybody should have equal say ''as much as possible'' while in reality people will never be equal. The problem with democratic capitalism today is that the capitalism operates globally and democracy operates nationally and so it's influence is much diluted. Brexit and Trump are attempts to reverse this situation. Power always resides in the hands of the few and must be answerable to the majority, globalism and the EU give more power to a greater few and disempower the majority.

@kevinrobertfrasier1309 It's going to be interesting and it would be nice if there was plenty of schadenfreude to be had for the modest hard working majority of Brits with traditional values such as thrift and never a borrower or a lender be, though obviously adapted to modern demands.

@davidparry5310 Easy to say but unable to justify your assertion. Democratic socialism on the other hand is a real oxymoron.

@davidparry5310 I don't think citing a 3rd world country's separatist movements helps much, the failures of democratic capitalism to give equality of opportunity to increasing numbers of people lie mainly with the policies and interventions of the left such as scrapping grammar schools, underrating technical/practical skills and apprenticeships, overrating university education and the politicisation of trade unions. The left have no interest in the different needs, abilities and opinions of individuals that are out of line with their ideology and their lust for power.

@davidparry5310 That was not a goal post shift, trade unions do not have to be partisan political entities they should operate in the best interests of their members unlike most do in this country such as Scargill and Red Robbo of auto industry infamy were. Division of capital and labour is in most cases unavoidable (the self employed are not included in this) but that should not mean the interests of capital and labour should be divided as our unions seem to think. Germany for one does it better.

John Mitchell England is no more prejudiced than Scotland, Ireland or Wales or many other countries I believe but it may be a little more overt and institutionalised though it may be easier to recognise prejudice in your own country. Gordon Brown's response to that woman concerned about immigration when he thought the recording was off was classic but am I just being prejudiced.

Tom Paine There are three roads into the future, left, right and straight ahead. Straight ahead is the road to progress, liberty and honest broking. Maintaining that direction involves diversions to the left and right to get around obstacles in the road, maintaining travel to the left or right leads to places we don't to be which kill progress, liberty and honest brokers. China has made some progress by veering to the right and Germany by veering to the left, China seems intent on returning onto the road left, Germany I can't say Russia looks to have lost the wheel and the US has gone off road.

My opinion on political ideologies can be summed up with the help of a few well worn cliches, if you're living in a country where it's ideology isn't broke don't fix. If it's not giving you enough of what you want then try to modify it to do that, some mods work some don't. Socialists and followers of other failed ideologies living in the West on the other hand would say, if it's not broke I'll fix it till it is and then replace with something worse.
