I built a fire in the fireplace last night and I used the 'Kyle method' of criss-crossing the wood kindling on the paper. Better aeration, fire lights better than piling it all in there.
I suggest you season your newly cut logs criss-cross stacked. That way there's more space in between logs, for better air circulation and drying. Keeps down all the critters, and nesting birds and squirrels, etc.
I switched to criss-crossing split firewood pieces in a stack, rather than parallel dense stack.
With the traditional regular stack, you get tired of congregated ant nests, wood beetles, western cricket turds, bird nests, 3" wolf spiders, and crud you'll have to brush off to use the firewood.
I see you regular stack split wood in your little cabin, protected.
