Yeah, you need a warming pad, and grow lights. Stuff may or may not sprout as is. Start outdoor plant seeds about 6 weeks before outdoor planting. Plant seeds of cold tolerant crops when soil warm enough to work. Radishes, spinach, broccoli, cabbage, they'll know when to sprout.

An egress window in the back maybe? Great job.

One thing I would want to build as a priority is a DIY pole shelter for your vehicle with roof to keep it free from ice and snow, etc., since you'll be going back and forth quite a bit.

Ray loves your series, but he was hoping for permanent cast concrete piers, embedded steel post (wood foundation) connectors to resist uplift, metal joist hangers for lasting strength, and a layer of 1/4" hardware cloth stapled across joists (beneath subfloor) to deter gnawing creatures. Perhaps you can still utilize the latter idea when you build your smaller out buildings. I understand there's an intersection between structural permanence/performance and upfront cost.

'at logging outfit's gonna hire you.

Kyle's 'mobilwagen' (towed cabin) is on his grand NEW property IF you follow along and listen to what he says.

The simplest, easiest and cleanest way to gather good potable water is: String up a 10x10' tarp at four corners and suspend from 4 trees with Paracord. Make a dip in the tarp midway on one side. Collect rain water into a 5 gallon bucket, with EZ fine bucket strainer insert. Consider filtering with Berkey filter. Clean off the tarp after rain, dry on clothesline.

Ya see, I'm a foundational kinda guy: Never does wood contact earth and moisture. Permanent foundations -- stone, concrete block, concrete piers, etc., in a permanent location. I'm a close to the house guy too: More convenient and safe ... in the wild and cold. A so you don't have to move or jack up a structure, avoiding duplication of effort, kinda guy. THAT kinda guy. But, hey, as long as YOU are happy ... Ray's happy.

I wonder what the water source is.

Don't forget the mortar hawk, Kyle. Held at same level as gap, slide the stuff right on. I don't think buildin' "Ray's bear fort" outta sharp stick's gonna work. Large air horn, bear spray and a Ruger .... I'm glad you built a bathroom right onto the cabin, instead of walking 30-40-50 ft alone at night, to an outhouse.

Absolutely excellent choice on building site. Work gloves, Cierra. Ten fingers, Kyle, good.

@KYLESCABIN "blight" Kyle, pick off bottom leaves of the tomato plant because the blight disease is soil born, so once the plants get about a foot or foot and a half tall, start that process. The other thing that should be done is putting a layer -- an inch or two -- of mulch around the bottom of the plants so the soil organisms can't splash up onto the tomato leaves. I'm a university certified master gardner. .

I would have zero hesitation to cut down homestead trees. It would: 1) provide fire wood 2) increase healthful air circulation 3) increase sunlight for solar panels, roof snow melting, gardening 4) obviate downed trees (on house) from wind/storms 5) improve line of sight 6) discourage approach of wild things 7) lessen (forest) fire risk 8) hasten drying of firewood stacks 9) warm compost piles 10) pleases Ray You have to look at your carbon footprint, Kyle. Gonna be low right? Cut down the trees. Alright, go plant some down the lane.

And maybe sometime could you tell us about your plans to change over your log foundation, jack up the cabin and put something else in!

Really nice team! 1 hour after sunset, look due southwest and low and you'll see a bright star which is Jupiter. Slightly to its upper left is a dimmer star, which is Saturn. At the same time, if you look due southeast and very high is the planet Mars. The moon will be rising due east. I love rough housing with dogs. But if Skeeter should bite too hard, immediately let out a high-pitched, "Ipe!!," which is a signal to the dog that they use with each other that play was a little too rough, and the dog will immediately back off. I hope you liked my hot bath idea.

Two-tone, right, not dark. Cobalt blue (or hunters green) accents. Priority #1: buy/build saw horse for that saw (instead of knee!). Priority #2: an ATV trail and hauling cart, no joke. First night hiking WY's Wind River Range, I built "Ray's bear fort," two dozen sharp sticks pointing out, around the tent. 🙄😆 . True. No bears!
