  2. The "why" in that problem of choose your pet or the human to save, is rather easy one. Is like "why" Neo choose Trinity over mankind and his role as the One. The emotional connection. The indian guy in the movie, explained his notion of "Love". The answer is simple, emotional ties with the pet, don't have with the human. But you can make a twist, by saying, if the person was a friend, love interest or family member, most likely, they would choose the person over the pet, most likely.
