  1. The rules (in the US) permit one to purchase real estate using a "self-directed IRA". The point here would be to purchase real estate... using money in an IRA account.... that would give rise to a 2nd citizenship. The country of Turkey, in particular, comes to mind. In the case of this country, there is risk of currency devaluation (i.e., the Turkish lira); but one of the points here is that to the extent that one incurred a loss on the ownership of a house in Turkey (i.e., a house purchase which would provide Turkish citizenship), the US government would.... in effect.... underwrite part of the loss, since taxes have to be paid on IRA withdrawals in any case.
