  2. The US did go through an entire decade (in the 1970's) of stagflation. I think the US could be facing another similar decade; but the difference is that this time, the national debt will be orders of magnitude greater, as will the unfunded liabilities. Accordingly, getting out of the stagflationary period (the one that may be coming) will be far more difficult and painful than was the process of getting out of the 70's stagflation. So while I am optimistic about the LONG TERM prospects for the US, I think that Americans are going to be in for a rough ride for many years to come... potentially 10 years or so.

  3. @Sovereign Agent Partly as a result of listening to him, I did make a big bet on gold mining stocks.... which has paid off. And I think they've got a lot more room to run.
