  1. Depends what you mean by “freedom”. Heritage.org discusses the issue of economic freedom here: https://www.heritage.org/index/about It ranks the United States #12 in the world. Insofar as taxes are concerned, the argument could be made that the US is the least free country in the entire world, as a consequence of its “citizenship based” tax system.

  2. Citizenship obtained by CIB is only good for 10 years (in most or all cases); yes, it's like a "call option", but one must still have a reasonable expectation of exercising that call option in order to justify the "premium" paid on that call option.
