  3. If the US government tried to squeeze more money out of those corporations, they'd keep even more money offshore, they'd hire fewer Americans, they'd charge higher prices, and... some of them might even decide to become domiciled in another country entirely. There is no free lunch here.

  4.  @jeremyleonbarlow  I've actually heard a different take on the effects of the 2017 (the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act); namely that the TCJA made the whole business of international taxation more complex (from the perspective of US companies), but... that the complexity works TO THE ADVANTAGE of the giant multinationals, while at the same time working to the DETRIMENT of the smaller offshore companies (that are owned by Americans).
