Felt that one right in the Reichstag, pretty sure it's gonna leave some Marx

I cannot recommend reading Blackshirts and Reds: Rational Fascism and the Overthrow of Communism by Michael Parenti and The State and Revolution by Lenin enough. Hakim's reading list finally pushed me over the edge there. Everyone should read those two texts

@balghar493 I mean, we shouldn't expect an exhaustive examination of perhaps the biggest question in political science from the second half of the 20th century in a mere 20 minutes. Was there something in particular you thought was missing here? Note also the copious reading list for this whale of a topic. Even reading a one thousand page tome regarding the Fall will leave the inquisitive mind seeking further answers. Don't forget that to this day if you ask 10 Classicists what caused Rome to "fall", you'll get at least 20 different answers

@sai_69 Yeah, I'm pretty sure Blackshirts and Reds is highlighted in that one. I think even Hakim would agree that, if you read just one of these books, let it be Blackshirts and Reds. Parenti is a very good author, it's from the 90s but much closer in time than most other historical theory, and it's just a very easy and enlightening read for the novice and the ML nerd alike. I'd also point out that Lenin is surprisingly digestible too, much more so than Marx usually is

Power to the Finnish People. May you weather the storm of Right Wing "leadership", and indeed, may they be made to endure the storm of the People's will

@LVArturs Unlikely shadowbanned, just had that comment hidden for spicy content. If they were shadowbanned we wouldn't even see their other comment here. The algorithm it uses to determine sometimes to hide comments definitely hits a lot of leftist terminology, makes me feel like a typical racist trying to get my dogwhistles past the censors sometimes

Historical examination? Well, I guess if I had to pick a favorite form of cope and this qualifies, sure, it is a pretty good way to come to grips with the reality we find ourselves in
6
@john.premose Don't let the word be poisoned because of its historical associations that make Americans uncomfortable. The word just means "tent-mate", as in the person you are ideologically (or literally) fighting beside. If it makes you feel Imposter Syndrome a little (like it does for me sometimes), pick up some theory, do a little Direct Action, talk about Socialism honestly with people in your life, and earn that title "comrade" a bit more. We're all comrades here, friend
6
@ninyaninjabrifsanovichthes45 That sounds like it's worth looking into, might you by chance have a book on the topic you could recommend?
4
@abderrahimderouiche8372 I think it's a safe assessment to suggest that the "secondary markets" were symptoms of the real problem of bourgeois revisionism, they weren't the root source of the decay themselves
4
@john.premose Maybe they do, and it's not for nothing that you notice, but that's that Imposter Syndrome I mentioned. Jokers can't ruin the solidarity expressed by that word. It really is a crazy thing, but it's true: If you aspire to socialism, then you have comrades in every corner of the globe, friends you've yet to meet. Just don't be a poser yourself, put in research and action, and the word will stop feeling like you're coopting something and will slowly start to feel more natural on your lips

No comrade you must understand, it was not the Man of Steel himself, but his dreadful Comically Large Spoon...

Political Compasses really are nothing but memes. The whole enterprise exists either to normalize right wing ideologies and to gratify those who insist on maintaining the status quo, or as Baby's First Foray Into Politics. That heady mixture might be very "internet", but there is a reason such a "theory" hasn't been adopted by academia or by any dialectical materialist
3
@LVArturs Fair enough, these are loose terms. Especially from site to site. To me, on YouTube, shadowbanning is something that happens to accounts, temporary or permanent, and "being hidden" is something that permanently happens to individual comments from accounts that aren't otherwise shadowbanned

@stygian4011 Can't post lynx (or sometimes even refer to them) in YouTube comments the majority of the time, but if you punched in the relevant terms, you'd get top results that demonstrate, according numbers gathered by both the United Nations and the CIA, that the average Soviet citizen ate as many calories and in fact had a more nutritious diet than even American citizens. Pointing to famines during the 30s as signs of Western superiority would be ironic, considering that the USA had the Dust Bowls at that time itself. In half a century, the Soviets went from feudalist serfs to eating better than the richest nation on earth that had hundreds of years worth of head start on it. These are, again, facts vetted even by the USSR's enemies as well as by its friends

Not sure what the difference is, unless it's purely ideological
2
@roseredflechette-vidya When people speak of the "Fall of Rome", they don't usually mean to suggest that it had absolutely nothing to do with outside forces like invaders. But fair enough, if that's how you understand the word, that distinction can certainly matter
2
Somehow those who support concentration camps at American borders for separating immigrants families from their children will always find it in themselves to defend immigrants when they come from a country where they can claim an ideological victory. Elián González from Cuba needed to stay, but Roberto González from Chile needs to kick rocks. What I'm saying is: I don't buy that you actually care about the human rights of would-be immigrants at all

If sucking was all it took, I wouldn't see Old Glory flying over Wounded Knee

To be honest I too would be interested in the topic of the Berlin Wall being examined. Even if someone could point me to a non-CIA published text covering the Wall from a spcialist perspective, I'd be happy to look into it

Hope JT is providing you with packets of Emergen-C slid under the basement door. But I swear, Hakim, it's like you work with sick people or something

I don't want a lot for May Day There is just one thing I need

Very broad question. It'd be like asking what America's argument would be for not having dissolved the CIA every day that passes where they choose not to

@cooked.gaming You OK, friend? You can be honest, we're being honest with each other here
1
@cooked.gaming I can't say Im surprised a person who believes that thousand-times debunked number thinks an expression of solidarity is "cringe". It is hideous, ahistorical, and rather pathetic to resort to body counts in a game of "Whose Is Bigger?", but not only is that number laughably inflated, but it doesn't even exceed the un-inflated, the conservative numbers for deaths under capitalist authority. Why not stick to actual points you can bring to bear without relying on a single pop history source whose own authors have disowned it. You probably don't even know the source you're citing — it's merely a meme
1
@cooked.gaming For example, that number you cited literally counts N*zi troop deaths in those "killed by communism", and it counts lower birth rates in the industrializing USSR as "deaths" of fetuses that were never even conceived lol. And thats besides just straight up making up numbers with no sources. Most of the authors have admitted that the main author was "obsessed" with hitting that artificial 100 mil. Since you're here, check out Hakim's vid "The Death Toll of Capitalism" for more sources proving what I'm saying. No historian actually considers that figure legit.

Blackshirts and Reds: Rational Fascism and the Overthrow of Communism is a book it sounds like you very much need to get yoyr hands in. You live under an authoritarian state. Everyone you know or have ever met or have ever heard of lives or lived under state authority
1
Congrats on avoiding one brand of bourgeois state Supreme Court majority for another, I reckon
1
@adamthethird4753 Someone has made GoodReads lists of Hakim's Book Recommendations, you can find it quickly with a simple search just for "Hakim book list" or some such. I have definitely used that to pick up a few more texts, like Reform or Revolution? by Rosa Luxemburg
1
@TheEvilWalrusLord I get a lot of hate mail from sionistas etc, but when I saw TheEvilWalrusLord I knew it was gonna be from a comrade lol. Thanks for that. And absolutely agree, they're also very easy reads relatively speaking
