This is silly, because this is the exact diagnosis of Western archaeology in the age of "The Ark is on Mt Ararat!" Soviet archaeology, like Marxism-Leninism at large, is/was based in dialectical materialism, not cultural relativism. And in fact, that materialist emphasis has finally found its way into Western archaeology, replacing relativist ideas. In repeating Red Scare nonsense, you actually condemn the side you claim to support

How are those two concepts even separate? Fetishes meant to provide supernatural boons are religious idols, it's just a matter of terminology. And you can say "feminists", no need to be a coward about it, they certainly aren't as afraid of the term as you seem to be

He mentions the divergence of Soviet and Western archaeology, and honestly most of what the Soviets were up to kinda embarrasses what Biblical treasure hunters calling themselves archaeologists were up to. Materialism informed Soviet society, of course it led to better archaeological practices, most of which have been absorbed into the Western model by now

@CollinBerry_Finn Hunting deer is not so hard that it requires anything like a peak specimen. They aren't out facing down mammoths, the sex angle would have to be socially supported to become an actual barrier for female participation. Likewise, not everyone is equally talented at handiwork, and some men would have been better suited to it than to hunting. Utilitarian explanations alone don't and can't account for human social order

@guidosillaste4297 History isn't written by the victors, the victors' history is written by the victors. In antiquity that might often have been one and the same, but certainly today it is difficult to eradicate a narrative so thoroughly, and even "victorious" history is filled with Revisionism, for whatever that's worth. Popular history will always be modeled on the propaganda of power, but today we have voices of dissent too loud and resourced and militant to be silenced outright. For example: Despite the immense contribution Americans and other Westerners make to Israeli settler-colonialism and the ethnic cleansing of the Nakba, the truth about what is happening in Palestine cannot be as thoroughly controlled and destroyed as those states would seem to prefer. Viva viva Palestina

@adamnesico I'm sorry, I don't understand what you're asking. But the Israeli state has "given" nothing to the people whom it forcibly relocated and whom they continue to ethnically cleanse. That's like saying the USA was magnanimous for tolerating Indians to exist on reservations after their continent-wide genocidal actions

Changes that took thousands of years in ice records already only take decades in the same ice records. There really is no scientifically refuting the frankly obvious and demonstrable fact that heavy industry accelerates climate change, especially not using sciences like archaeology. But if you like, go ahead and claim I'm the one making up all those records, and give me a one-liner and emoji too why don't you, that way you can continue your baseless belief and feel superior about it 👍

@scottgoldsberry2730 lol yep, there it is! Sheer genius. It is literally impossible to argue with someone who just denies all facts they dislike out of hand. You don't know anything about what you're talking about, you've got a faith-based belief system about these things that cannot be shaken by mere facts, that's all you've proven and all you can prove

When your civilization lasts thousands of years, it becomes a very likely force for material change
