  1. Like others have said, I'm sure it's already happened. But it might well be that the Empire falls before we elect anyone willing to be so honest to such a superstitious electorate. Honestly this sort of smoke and mirrors for the sake of duping dupes calls the very legitimacy of representative republicanism into question

  2. There is no way that more than three quarters of the people in my extended acquaintances group are religious believers. I know for a fact that more than half of the people I know who would self-identify as religious in polls or when asked never evince any sort of religiosity at any other time. I think a lot of Americans think that entertaining any speculative notions about the divine is enough to make them reject the Scarlet Letter of "atheism"
