That's the majority of religious people's idea of religion: Smug superiority over others who don't worship the same way you do. It has much more to do with enforcing social norms on earth than anything else

It's pretty clear you're trying to pick a fight and proclaim your own spiritual and intellectual superiority with these multiple comments all saying the same thing. You are glorifying yourself, not the Divine

Besides, he cites the Bible several times in this vid, what are you even talking about? He does so right after the introduction at 2:19 and he continues to do so throughout

The truth is you are not glorifying Allah but yourself, because you can no more prove your statements to be true than worshipers of Zeus can. You can prove nothing but your own prejudice, it has no reflection upon the Divine whatsoever. You are the one who has already earned all the reward you will ever have, if this is how you act

@paulthompson9668 Paul, if you can prove your statement, you'd be the greatest human to ever live. What you're doing is being holier-than-thou, not being wise. If you could offer even a shred of scientific proof that your myths are real when others' myths aren't, again, you would be the very first to do it, and your name would be legend forever. I await such a glorious revelation. Until then you are merely stamping your feet, no different from the fervent believer of any other myth

@emptyhand777 It's wild how bigots see that as a story condemning homosexuality rather than condemning wanton violence, cruelty, abusing innocent travelers when they are your guest, and, you know, r*pe. People who think that homosexuality was the biggest problem in that scenario are the ones who are truly perverse

Your faith is prejudice and arrogance. You cannot prove your claims, yet you are quite good at condemning those of others. It is you who is divisive, voluntarily denouncing others' religions while acting affronted when others do the same to you. This behavior is a product of the worst that religious impulses inspire in humanity: You are not glorifying god, you are picking fights with your very real fellow human beings

@notyourtypicalwaifu No, he's a scholar of Religious Studies. None of this has to do with proving or disproving any mythology to be "true". You seem to want him to confirm the unconfirmable of your faith, you seem to not understand the academic nature of this channel. This isn't a woo woo channel here to tell you how angels are real, nor even how they are not real

This is a video on mythology (for that's what all this is), not a theology or numerology course. People who take these myths seriously always get mad that their woo-woo isn't centered here

@KarlKarsnark I agree that criticism is a thing an academic presents themselves to, that's kinda the whole point of the scientific method. But you haven't really criticized much, you've mostly just offered insults without really arguing against any of the conclusions with conclusions of your own. For the record, these videos are meant to be surveys for a mass audience, not highly technical essays for a more niche academic crowd―it seems some of your problems with the content come more from the very format, which you ought to know is not unintentional. It's not like Andrew here isn't a working professor, he's just covering a lot of ground in these vids, hence "survey". He has other, more long-form content like interviews with experts in other vids if you genuinely believe that these videos are the extent of his knowledge on the subjects he covers: He's not like the unprofessional, uneducated content creators that typically weigh in in circles like these. And frankly, that "what he was told to think in school", anti-intellectual tone just kinda makes it sound like you do your "research" on Facebook

@BlackReaper0 Even in the myth, how could a single guard and sword stop a mass of motivated people? Did the ancients simply fail to storm the Bastille in requisite numbers? One sword stopping a whole horde would have to be so massive and/or supernaturally swift that it wouldn't even make sense to call it a "sword" in the first place

@wilsonli5642 But Dancing Sword only gets one attack per round! That goes nack to what I'm saying — all it would take would be like 5 people to overwhelm a single guard and a Dancing Sword in DnD. Even if the guard was an angel, still, you'd maybe just need a somewhat larger cohort, and they couldn't possibly stop everybody. I assume we readers are supposed to be way more scared of a magic Sword and an angel, cuz when I read that all ilI think is "Really? That's all that guards 'Paradise', and nobody ever even tried to storm that castle?" It's a myth very much meant for people who were already subservient to the rest of the mythos, someone who wasn't under that thrall immediately notices how materially flawed or else obviously allegorical these myths are. In any case, they surely reflect the fiction imagination of a terrified people

That explanation requires almost as much suspension of disbelief as the divine explanation. If you're looking for simple explanations, the simplest is that none of this ever really happened
